We are committed to protecting the privacy and integrity of data collected, created, stored and transmitted by the University and its affiliates.
We oversee data privacy and protection compliance at GW by:
- Creating and promoting policies, standards and best practices concerning data privacy and protection of the personal information of our community members.
- Working closely with University stakeholders to apply core privacy principles and data protection requirements for safeguarding information.

Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPs)
Individuals should be given notice of the university’s information practices before personal information is collected from them.
The data collector must establish a lawful basis for the collection of personal information. This may include obtaining consent from individuals, for the collection and processing of their personal information.
Defined as individuals' ability to verify and contest the accuracy of their personal information, collected and maintained by the university, under applicable privacy laws and regulations.
University departments collecting and processing individuals’ personal information, should ensure that the data they collect is accurate and secure.
Requirement to comply with applicable Privacy laws and regulations and university privacy policies. Policy enforcement: Members of the GW community are responsible for adhering to and acting in accordance with university policies.
